Gymnast Visit
On 9th February 2022, Team GB Gynast Kelly Simm visited Hungerford Primary to inspire the children to enjoy physical exercise and demonstrate some of her medal winning gymnastics too. Kelly has been a member of the Great Britain gymnastics team for the last 10 years and won gold in her intrnaational debut at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and then won silver and gold medals with the England team at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Kelly also won a bronze medal with the Great Britain team at the 2015 World Championships, which remains the only time Great Britain have won a world team medal.
Kelly spoke to the children about her passion for gynastics, her determination to reach the top of her sport (by hopefully qualifying for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024) and encouraged the children to aspire to be the best they can be in all aspects of their lives.
The children also took part in fundraising to raise money for participating in the event with Kelly and raised just over £3000 which will be spent on brand new sports equipment for all pupils to support PE lessons.
