Leave of Absence

Regular attendance is crucial for every child. A primary school child is at school for 12% of the year, therefore every day counts! Through our partnership with parents and carers we encourage a culture where you:

  • Always encourage regular school attendance
  • Always ensure your child arrives at school punctually and ready for the school day

Term Time Holiday

From the 1st September 2013 there was a change in the law relating to children’s attendance at school. Regarding term time holiday the Department of Education guidance is as follows:

  • Headteachers may not grant any leave of absence during term time, except in very exceptional circumstances.  Holidays for reasons of convenience or price do NOT qualify. Exceptional circumstances are absences due to, for example, military movement, funerals, weddings and terminal illness or bereavement of a parent or sibling.

  • In exceptional circumstances, if leave is granted, the headteacher should determine the number of school days a child can be away from school.

You can find our Leave of Absence Request Form on our Key Documents page.
