Visit from a Polar Explorer!

On Friday 27th November, Year 5 were visited by a polar explorer, Wendy Searle. Wendy’s Antarctic expedition began exactly five years to the day when she visited us. Which we all thought was very apt! Wendy spoke to year 5 about her polar experiences, speaking about: the bitter cold (-35 on a good day), breaking two of her teeth on frozen cheese, skiing solo for over 700 miles in 42 days and becoming the seventh women ever to complete an expedition from Hercules Inlet to the South Pole (being the fourth quickest woman to ever complete the journey). As well as this, Wendy brought all of her polar equipment that she used on the expedition to show us, including: a Polk (to carry equipment), skis with Roald Amundsen’s face on, fur coats and packets of polar expedition food!
